Granola

Teams are very much like granola. You might not like eating oats or nuts on their own (like myself), or you might not be into dried fruit chunks and honey because all of the sugar.

That said, each component has its own nutritional benefits and downsides, but the magic of granola is that together you can make something that is more nutritious than eating just dried fruit, and more tasty than eating a handful of dry, mouth-dehydrating oats and bland nuts (obviously my own opinion).

So when you’re thinking about teams, remember you’re looking for balance. Make sure your rockstar doers are balanced with rockstar planners. For everyone flying at 10,000 feet, make sure you have someone who knows what it’s like on the ground.

Leverage diversity and celebrate the fact that together we’re always better.
