The dictionary definition of “authentic” is that someone is true to their own personality, spirit, or character.
And I think it’s very interesting, because it implies that there is somewhat of a spectrum of authenticity; that you can be more or less true to that internal character that makes up who you are.
This spectrum allows for the flexibility in order to be yourself, even when doing seemingly contradictory actions or changing how you act in different contexts.
However, when most people talk about authenticity, they’re really talking about uniqueness or remarkability.
Uniqueness and authenticity go hand in hand, but it’s worth taking the time to understand what you really mean because you don’t want to be asking for something you don’t actually want.
