With a formal leadership role, it’s tempting to let the allure of power go to one’s head. But the true role of a leader is actually one of taking responsibility.
The power to make decisions has to scale accordingly with the amount of responsibility you take for your actions. The more power you want, the more you need to be willing to own the missteps, mistakes, and failures along the way.
The best leaders also take responsibility for failures, yet pass on the acclaim of success to their teams.
The question isn’t whether or not you can become a leader. Anyone can.
The question is whether or not you’re willing to shoulder the responsibility of a leader.
