What You Get Away With

Culture is defined by not what we say, but what we’re allowed to get away with.  

When you’re getting promoted by only choosing high-profile projects to work on and putting your performance review above teamwork, your CEO can talk about equality and being a team all they want – but these words will ring hollow.  

You can tell people to show up on time, but when people show up to meetings ten minutes late and no one says anything, what incentive is there really to be there on time? Why not be there twelve minutes late next time? What about thirty?  Why wouldn’t they even try to see if they could get away with not showing up at all?
