The Void vs The Arena

Publishing your work can feel like shouting into the void. Thus, it’s tempting to mold yourself into something that you know will grab attention.

“Let’s make it controversial.”

“Sex sells, right?”

“Well the new trend is X, so let’s try that.”

Sure, that might work temporarily, but what happens when the trend shifts, or you can’t take the inauthenticity anymore?

It’s far better to rethink publishing as an exercise unto itself. A process to build up the emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical resilience of showing up, making assertions, and stepping out into the arena.

Because if you’re not ready when no one is watching, you’re definitely not going to be ready when everyone is.
