Playing the Odds

Nothing in life is ever certain.  Tomorrow, an asteroid might strike the planet, breaking off half of the earth so that it’s actually flat.

Gravity is pretty certain, but if Earth exploded as per the asteroid, it definitely wouldn’t be what it is today.

Eight months ago, I was sure being a grocery store clerk was an easy job, theme parks were a solid business, and teaching via Zoom was a novelty.

We can never be sure of an outcome – we can only stack the deck as much as we can in our favor.

If nothing is a sure thing, and all our choices are just bets, then why are we so focused on outcomes we can’t control?
