Changing Other People

When I’m asked what super power I would want, I often think about mind control.

That way, I could be a benevolent* dictator and mind whammy people into world peace and acceptance and understanding.

But the reality is that no one can change other people.

All we can do is to create the conditions for someone to choose to change themselves. By modeling the behavior we want to see, by listening and truly seeing people, by building trust, by creating the psychological safety necessary to make mistakes, experiment, and innovate – these are the ways forward towards empowering people to become more of who they wish they were.

So of course, the best way forward in changing other people is changing yourself.

*Does any dictator really look at themselves and think they’re a trash human being? Of course not.
