The history books tell us both caramel and candied apples were made as experiments to figure out what to do to turn a profit from holiday candy.  They were simply messing around, tried something out, and ended up creating a hit.

Making an already sweet fruit even sweeter isn’t something that would have occurred to me, but apparently we like taking things and making them more extreme. While perhaps strange at first, eventually they became holiday staples. Turduken, anyone?  

Regardless, these hits were created through experimentation, and the willingness to try new things.  What weird mashups might you try to create something new?
